Yara El-Khoury was a minor character from Human Resources. She was the mother of Amir El-Khoury, the mother-in-law of Nabilah El-Khoury, and the grandmother of Nadja and Natalie El-Khoury. She is voiced by Nidah Barber-Raymond.

Biography[]

In Training Day, Walter brings Emmy to a nursing home to meet Yara, who immediately begins to reminisce about her forbidden romance with Safi when she was in college. She is brought out of her hallucination by her son, Amir, who came for his daily visit with her favorite tea.

In It's Almost Over, Yara is now living with her son and his family after she broke her hip in the nursing home. According to Tito, she, her Ambition Gremlin, her Appetite Sprite, and her Bladder Badger have all been dismissed from Yara's team due to her coming to terms with death and no longer needing them, leaving only Walter on her team. After asking Natalie to give her candy (since Amir would not give her any), Yara is convinced to take her to the store to get alcohol, a Juul, and lottery scratchers in exchange for chocolate. The candy reminds her of Safi, which triggers her dementia and makes her reminisce about him again. Her memories shift to her life with Wassim, who she learns to love and create a family with. After remembering how much she loved the life she had, she finally makes peace with dying in a moment of clarity. She dies at home after all of her family members come to say goodbye and sees Wassim and Safi both waiting for her in the afterlife.

Relationships[]

Family[]

Amir El-Khoury - Yara had a close relationship with her youngest son before her Alzheimer's developed. Afterwards, she had a love-hate relationship with him due to forgetting who he was half the time she saw him. Amir never held this against her and took her death the hardest.

Nabilah El-Khoury - Yara and Nabilah presumably had a good relationship prior to her Alzheimer's developing, but Nabilah did not feel like they could properly take care of her and her demands when she came to live with them.

Natalie El-Khoury - Yara did not have much of a relationship with Natalie, as she could not remember her or her name, but after their time out of the house together in It's Almost Over, she considered Natalie her friend "Lindsay Lohan".

Friends[]

Walter Las Palmas - Walter was Yara's Lovebug. She was his favorite client due to her forbidden romance with Safi, which he relived with her every time her dementia made her think about him. He was initially in denial about her dying and refused to acknowledge that she wouldn't live much longer, but with Keith's help, he came to terms with it. After seeing her ghost, he promised her that he would look after Natalie and become her Lovebug.

Love Interests[]

Safi - When she was in college, Yara fell in love with Safi even though her family did not approve of him. She would go to the restaurant he worked at every day since she could not be seen in public with him. He served her rosewater tea and an almond cookie every time, and they would meet in secret at the beach often. At some point, he proposed to her, so she had to break off their relationship completely due to her family's lack of support. They never saw each other again, and he later died. After she died, they reunited in the afterlife, along with Wassim.

Wassim El-Khoury - After breaking up with Safi, Yara met Wassim. Walter did not like him at first because he was cocky, but Yara fell in love with him anyways because he was kind to her and she could be honest with him. The two later married and had three children together. At some point, Wassim died, leaving Yara alone again. After she died, they reunited in the afterlife, along with Safi.
