The Addiction Angel is the sixth episode of Human Resources.

Synopsis[]

Dante the Addiction Angel causes a problem when he becomes Doug's new creature and puts him on a strict exercise program for the sake of fitting into his wedding suit. Joe and Gil steal Andrew from Maury to avoid losing their jobs, but they find that Andrew's non-stop masturbating is too much for them. The Shame Wizard tries to help Emmy kick her obsession with Dante when he dumps her.

Plot[]

Dante the Addiction Angel he dumps Emmy, although it’s not technically a break-up since they were never “officially” together, but it certainly sends Emmy over the edge. She spends the entire episode obsessively trying to find Dante’s magical angel dust that makes other beings addicted to him.

Even Lionel is not immune to his charms, having once fallen prey to one of Dante’s schemes and spent time at a My Cousin Vinny slot machine where he lost all of his money. Lionel even tries to help Emmy detox from her Dante addiction by cleaning her entire apartment of angel dust (yes, I see what they did there).

While Emmy tries to come down from her Dante high, Pete and Rochelle are saddled with the sexy angel after he ends up on Doug’s team. Just a few days away from his wedding and Doug can’t put down the sugary treats. He’s addicted to everything from red vines to Pop-Tarts and now his special wedding suit won’t fit. And while Rochelle is resistant to Dante’s charms, Pete falls head over heels for the angel after Dante woos him with homemade pie charts and graphs analyzing the best way to help Doug lose the extra weight pre-wedding.

But as we know, Dante’s charms often come with a downside and it doesn’t take long for him to start pushing speed, pills and other dangerous diet methods on Doug and Pete. Twelve hours before Pete’s wedding to Donna, he and Pete are gorging themselves on diet pills and speed pills while working out frantically to see if they can get Doug to fit into his suit. No surprise that it ends with Doug having a heart attack and waking up in the hospital.

Luckily for him, Donna is understanding and tells Doug she doesn’t care if he can fit into his suit, she just wants him to be alive! They end up getting to the wedding on time and sharing beautiful vows with one another, Doug’s written by Rochelle (with a little help from Dante).

Throughout the episode, Dante tries to get Rochelle to fall for him, but it doesn’t work. She’s immune to his dust, but there is definitely a spark between them. It’s just real and not generated by Dante’s magic touch, making it more special, at least to him. Rochelle is even impressed with Dante’s romantic vow-writing skills, but as he points out, addiction isn’t all that different from love.

In the final moments of the episode, Dante and Rochelle can no longer deny their sizzling chemistry and wind up making out. Unfortunately, it’s at that exact moment that Emmy catches them! Is this the end of Rochelle and Emmy’s friendship?

Outside of the Dante drama and Doug’s wedding, this episode has a fun sub-plot revolving around the Hormone Monsters and a Big Mouth crossover. Some of the Hormone Monsters aren’t pulling their weight at the office and their overall orgasms are down. To encourage the monsters to do better, Gavin and corporate offer some exciting prizes including a trip to…Anal Island as the grand prize. The person who lands in last place is fired.

Joe and Gil have the lowest scores and worry about losing their jobs, so they band together to steal Maury’s top client from him and guess who it is? Andrew Glouberman (John Mulaney)! Together, they woo Andrew and make him feel special enough that he chooses them over Maury. But Gil and Joe quickly realize that Andrew is…well, disgusting. He’s constantly horny and seems to orgasm nonstop. Gil and Joe barely get a moment’s peace their entire time with him.

It’s enough that they realize Andrew needs a monster as gross as he is, hence why Maury is the perfect fit. Ultimately, they quit and let Maury take his job back, which is a good thing because Maury was about to kill Andrew in an “If I can’t have you, no one can moment.” He also admits that Andrew is his favorite kid, except Matthew, of course.

Rick actually ends up being in last place, but he doesn’t get fired since, apparently, he owns the office building (of course he does). “Inherited wealth, baby. My grandparents did some stuff I am not proud of.”
