Sonya Poinsettia is a lovebug who works for Jessi Glaser and helps her with her romantic attraction towards Ali. She first appeared in "Lovebugs". She is voiced by Pamela Adlon.
Biography[]
Big Mouth[]
Sonya first appeared in "Lovebugs", where she worked at Human Resources and talked with her friendly co-worker, Walter about work and Blake and Gwen’s relationship. She expressed annoyance over the fact that Emmy was 45 minutes late for work that day but overall, kept it to herself. It was then, when she was assigned to be the lovebug of Jessi Glaser, who just so happened to be friends with Walter's new client, Nick Birch. Sonya and Walter flew on down to Bridgeton Middle School to observe their new clients' behavior and found out pretty quickly that Nick was smitten for Jessi.
Before Sonya officially introduced herself to Jessi, she met with Connie, who was apparently a long-time friend of her's. The two of them caught up and wondered who Jessi's love interest would be. Sonya witnessed Nick serenade Jessi with a love song, which she was not flattered by. Jessi's indifference toward Nick was cemented by Sonya's butt not lighting up.
Sonya finally became visible to Jessi, amid an anal-aura that flooded the entire bedroom with the glow of a ruby cavern, just as Jessi was deep in admiration of Ali Wong. This was the end of her appearance in the episode but only the beginning of her role in the series.
In "The Green-Eyed Monster", which took place immediately where "Lovebugs" left off, Sonya officially introduced herself to Jessi, who was rather confused as to why she "loved" Ali, given how she'd always seen herself as a heterosexual, so Sonya helped her understand her feelings for Ali. Sonya helped Jessi realize that she wants to buy cheap matching necklaces with Ali, choreograph stupid dance video on TikTok with her, and even create a secret language with her to annoy the fuck out of everybody, she she floated into the big pink skies of love with Jessi. Sonya also distanced "love" from "sex", exemplified by how Connie tried to jump up and fly with them, only to fall to the ground and break her face.
Human Resources[]
In Human resources, she was fired. So she became a bartender.
Appearance[]
Sonya is a rather short daffodil lovebug with a tubby little belly. She has turquoise eyes and a big slicked up auburn hairstyle. She wears a red sleeveless dress with blue and indigo stripes on it and also red tights on her fat legs and black slip-on shoes on her tiny feet. Her butterfly wings have orange, blue, and yellow on them.
Personality[]
Sonya is a rather anhedonic lovebug, who feels relatively underwhelmed with her job, especially when contrasted with her co-worker, Walter.
