Hey, Jeremy. There's no reason to stand up yet. I promise you, you will get off the plane.
—Pete Doheny in Birth

Pete Doheny the Logic Rock is a main character of Human Resources. He is a rock creature who represents logic and gives his clients logical advice to assist them with rational thinking and decision-making. He works for Human Resources and serves as the logic rock to Becca Lee and Doug Frederick. He sits in the cubicle next to Emmy Fairfax at work. He first appeared in "Birth". He is voiced by Randall Park.

Biography[]

In "Birth", Pete Doheny made his debut in the cold opening, helping out one of his clients, Jeremy, when getting off the plane. When the plane landed and the bell dinged, Jeremy immediately stood up, even though he was in third class. Pete kindly assured him that he can remain seated until he actually has the ability to get off the plane.

Pete Doheny was later seen, along with all of the other monsters who work for Becca Lee, observing how she was being put on bed rest until the rest of her pregnancy, due to her hypertension. Pete was confused as to how Becca could even have hypertension if it doesn't run in her family. Connie the hormone monstress worried that Becca and Barry won't be having any sex for the rest of her pregnancy but Pete told her that they will be having sex, albeit less frequently and enjoyable. Lionel noted that their sex wasn't that frequent and enjoyable to begin with.

Pete witnesses Sonya getting fired from Human Resources and dragged out of the office complex. He also chided Emmy for not having any knowledge about this beforehand, considering she's her assistant and it was her job to observe Sonya's job.

When Emmy learned that via letter she'd be Becca's replacement lovebug, in the absence of Sonya, Pete was thrown off by the fact that the note assumed Emmy's gender. Emmy tried to ask Pete if there was anything he could do to reassign Becca with another lovebug and although Pete agreed that Emmy was completely unfit to be her lovebug, he said there was nothing she could do about it, since whatever task the tube gives you, is the task you're stuck with.

Pete was later shown, helping out one of his clients, a little boy named Robby, with overcoming his fears that a monster would be hiding under his bed. Pete made the logical statement that a monster wouldn't be able to fit under his bed because they're too big and that he should be more worried about his closet. Just then, he got paged and had to go report to Becca, who was going into labor. As he left, he reminded Robby that death is inevitable, so he really shouldn't worry about it.

When Becca was on the birthing bed, Pete looked through his Web MD printouts to find information on what she can do to help her with her birthing process and reminded her to change positions, although Connie found Pete's contributions to be completely useless and aggrivating. The other monsters all started to worry that at 8 centimeters, Becca wasn't dilated enough to give birth and that her vagina would rip all the way across her taint and into her anus but Pete told them and Becca that this wasn't true and to take deep breaths and ignore all these morons until it was all over. Pete then noticed Emmy hiding behind the heart monitor and demanded she get into the fray and help Becca by doing something like giving her feel-good love talk bullshit.

Pete went up to Emmy and leveled with her, acknowledging the yin-yang balance between facts and feelings. Pete wisely told Emmy that logically speaking, love needs to exist, because without love, nobody would have the emotional motivation to do the things that they're logically supposed to do. Emmy went on and gave Becca her pep-talk, which was enough to give Becca the power to finally give birth to Jake. After which, Pete instructed Emmy to fuel Becca's love for her newborn child and along with the other monsters, Pete expressed annoyance, when Emmy said that Jake looked like someone put Mr. Potato Head parts on a baseball.

Appearance[]

Pete Doheny is a tall, gray rock person, who is shaped like an Easter Island Moai head. He wears a white buttoned work shirt, a red tie, black pants, a brown belt, and brown shoes.

Personality[]

Pete Doheny is a logical and rationally-thinking intellectual, who puts facts before anything else. Pete makes a point of basing his reasoning off of truth and not letting personal feelings or emotions affect his thought process, whatsoever. Pete serves as the straight man to other monsters in his department and regularly gets frustrated and irritated with their irrational behavior.

Despite being as smart as he is, Pete doesn't seem to understand how sometimes feelings can trump logic and the love people have inside of them, can make them behave completely irrationally and make the impossible happen, rendering his logic to be completely useless. On top of that, Pete denies the fact that he's susceptible to irrational emotions himself, as exemplified by how he suddenly starts to act uncharacteristically stupid, whenever he's around someone he's in love with.

Pete an OCD maniac, who's all about keeping things neatly organized and categorized with several little mnemonic devices to help him remember things. He can go on for hours, rambling about his technology stuff in great detail.

In his free time, Pete loves watching movies for fun. He is a huge nerd who's obsessed with stereotypical dork shows and movies like Star Wars and Lord of the Rings. Pete loves geeking out over his favorite little shows, whenever he gets the chance and thinks that he's being funny and charming when he references to such media.
