Miss Marietta Harvey Clinkscales was the piano teacher of Duke Ellington. She appeared in "Duke".
Biography[]
In "Duke", an 8-year-old Edward Ellington took classical piano lessons from Miss Marietta Clinkscales, which Edward hated. Marietta told Edward that he was a very talented pianist. Upon hearing this in the story, Nick assumed that Duke lost his virginity to Miss Clinkscales but Duke assured him that Miss Clinkscales was gross old hag, who was sadly unmarried at 25, which was not normal at that day in age. While playing the piano, a young Edward Ellington looked out the window to see his friends playing baseball and Marietta scolded him for getting distracted. Edward apologized to her and told her he was going away, never to return and took off. Marietta broke the fourth wall to let the audience know that they didn't need to worry about her because her life was going perfectly fine and that at home, she had a lesbian life partner, who she engaged in tons of sex with. She also joked that if orgasms were money, she'd be a Rockefeller.
Trivia[]
- In the cartoon, Miss Clinkscales claims to be a lesbian with a female lover named Ernestine, which was not true about the real-life Marietta Clinkscales and was most likely only included in her dialogue as a joke.
- She is the fourth character in the series to be classified as non-straight in spite of her real-life counterpart being straight. The others being Socrates, Antonin Scalia, and Whitney Houston.
