Ali is a young Asian girl and the new student at Bridgeton Middle School who was transferred from Our Lady in the Water and she quickly became the "it girl" at school after admitting that she is pansexual. She first appeared in "Rankings". She is voiced by Ali Wong.
Biography[]
When Ali was still attending Our Lady In The Water, Ali told her best friend that she liked her, but Ali's friend turned against her, called her a "lesbo" and got everybody at their school to stop talking to Ali, which resulted in Ali having to change schools, with her former classmates spreading disgusting rumors about her reasons for transferring schools such as her being expelled for making out and engaging in sexual activities with nuns, which followed Ali to her new school: Bridgeton Middle School.
At her new school, Ali announced to everyone that she was pansexual during her self-introduction and proceeded to explain to her classmates what pansexuality meant upon being asked to by Nick, much to the boys' amazement and the teacher's chagrin as she did not want this subject discussed in her class but she was ignored by the students. The boys became attracted to Ali due to her being into boys and girls and most of them voted Ali as the hottest girl at school in their lists.
Upon being interviewed by Matthew after Ali was ranked as the hottest girl in school, Ali talked about how she thought her new school was so "basic" but was impressed by the "weird kid wedding", rankings and how she is allowed to swear on an in-school TV show and stated that the school was awesome while swearing.
Ali attended Devin's bachelorette party where she, after hearing Devin rant about DeVon joining the other boys in making lists, proposed to the girls that they made their own lists of the hottest guys at school, although Devin pretended she didn't hear her and tried to pass it off as her idea, making Ali roll her eyes. Despite the fact the girls' lists were meant to rank the boys, Ali put Mila Jansen in the first place since she liked Mila's new hairdo, Matthew MacDell in second place and Lola Skumpy in third place and complimented Lola's overall look. This surprised the girls since a lot of students don't find Lola attractive. Ali's idea of the girls ranking the boys gave them a taste of their own medicine as they too became competitive, resentful and insecure in the case of those with a low ranking, especially Nick Birch and DeVon since his "fianceé" was almost at the bottom of the list.
Ali later attended Devin and DeVon's "wedding", where Lump flirted with her and her comeback to his obscene flirting made him cry while Devin, still upset over not being considered attractive by her classmates, took out her anger on Ali since she was ranked first in nearly all the lists and ends up kissing Ali out of insecurity, much to the latter's disgust. Ali was the first one to be proud of Jay for coming out as bisexual when the other students either brushed it off as Jay being Jay or were thrown off over him being a bisexual boy and Ali told Jay the real reason why she changed schools, ignored Jay's rude advances and invited him to dance with her instead.
In "Disclosure the Movie: The Musical!", Ali auditioned to be in "Disclosure" but was disappointed to see that she was cast as a character named "Hot Asian With Asian Boobs" and that her role was to get slapped in the ass and apologize for it. Naturally, Ali hated this and so she joined Jessi, Gina, and Matthew in vehemently protesting against it. In her case, Ali wanted the play to be shut down because of it's racism and eventually got her wish.
In "Super Mouth" Ali took part in the superpowered showdown with her superpower being teleportation. She took Nick's side during his argument with Andrew at gym class. When a fight breaks out at graduation, Ali could be seen fighting Devin, although Ali was frozen by her.
In "The New Me", Ali sang in the recap song about how she joined the cast in "Rankings".
In "Cafeteria Girls", Ali returned to Bridgeton Middle School for 8th grade and had already gotten into a relationship with Samira. She announced on the news that they would often go over to Samira's house and have sex because Samira's parents always watched TV at full volume and couldn't hear their orgasm cries upstairs.
In "Four Stories About Hand Stuff", Ali and Samira "fingered" each other in the locker room and while on the subject of Devin and DeVon's divorce, explained to Lola that she doesn't need to do whatever her man tells her to, which blew her mind.
In "The Shane Lizard Rises", Ali, along with most of the girls, was impressed by the fact that the Go-gurt burglar was very wall endowed and gossped with the other girls about the subject at the dressing room until Devin ruined the moment by pointing about some of the girls' "flaws".
In "Lovebugs", Ali was invited to Jessi's place to plan a protest against their ugly school mascot, were they discussed things like their relationships and decided to take matters in their own hands and get rid of the statue by themselves. They are given pineapple slices as snacks by Greg and after seeing how embarrassed Jessi was of her father Ali revealed that she finds her own father embarrassing because of the jeans he wears and this got Greg's interest, who asked Jessi to pass his info to Ali's father so they can hang out.
At school, Ali and Jessi tried to move the statue after eating the pineapple, which gave them gas to their amusement, but upon realizing that it wasn't fake they resorted to vandalizing it and this ended up getting them arrested by two officers who were disgusted by the smell while the two girls just laughed nonstop. Ali and Jessi were taken to the police station but since it proved to be a minor crime the officers called their parents to pick them up and told them to "lay off the pineapple" since they made their car smell bad but the girls simply remused laughing. Ali was grounded for the incident but snuck out of her room after stuffing her dad's jeans on her bed to make it look like it was her and went to Jessi's place to compliment her and tell her she was a "fucking badass" and departed by saying "love you" to Jessi, making Jessi realize that she had feelings for her, whether romantic or just wanting to be best friends with Ali.
In "The Green-Eyed Monster", Ali and Jessi recalled the events of the previous night at school, which bothered Samira since she was trying to talk to Ali but her girlfriend's attention went to Jessi and Samira was left "on the outside of [their] inside joke". Ali arranged to go to Samira's place to spend time together, which Samira subtly rubbed on Jessi's face since the latter wanted to hang out with Ali again. The next day, Ali invited Jessi over to her place since Samira had karate but after Samira's class was cancelled she greeted Jessi at Ali's door and lied to her girlfriend about Jessi not wanting to take her shoes off to make her look bad. Ali, Samira and Jessi later sat on Ali's bed to watch videos on her laptop until Ali suggested bringing some snacks so Jessi revealed that she had brought pineapple slices again, whih once again gave them gas, much to Samira's disgust since she wasn't fond of that kind of humor but Jessi brushed her off and this eventually resulted in Jessi and Samira fighting and Ali having to separate them. Samira, believing Ali was choosing Jessi over her, breaks up with Ali and runs off tearfully and Ali chews out Jessi for being mean to Samira and asks her to leave while Ali cries in her bedroom.
Ali and Jessi avoided each other until "Thanksgiving", were Jessi, who finally realized that her parents weren't getting back together and Greg's girlfriend was pregnant, ran off to Ali's house in tears and apologized for the incident with Samira and causing the break up and Ali, feeling sorry for Jessi, forgave her and admitted that she too missed Jessi.
In "Best Friends Make the Best Lovers", Connie sang about how Jessi and Ali could make the best lovers. At school, Ali got Jessi a Starbucks frapuccino and while she changed Jessi didn't know if she should look or not and tried to distract herself albeit Connie and Sonya weren't helpful. Ali and Jessi teamed up at P.E. and Jessi helped Ali do sit ups by holding her feet with both girls unaware that Missy, who was still mad at them for the club incident, was glaring daggers at them and met the hateworm Rochelle, who encouraged Missy to hate the girls and get back at them by spreading fake rumors about them hooking up the day they were arrested using Jessi's Instagram photos.
In "I Fucking Hate You", Ali and Jessi eventually find out that someone under the alias "Dr. PlainTalk" (a.k.a. Missy) was spreading rumors about them being lovers and Ali was both greatly angered and worried over this since she was afraid that Samira could think Ali cheated on her while Jessi, who was still struggling about her feelings towards Ali, decided not to take the risk of losing Ali as a friend and kept it a secret. At school, Ali and Jessi face bullying for their supposed hooking up despite the girls stating in Matthew's News Channel that the rumors were fake yet Ali found herself facing the same kind of bullying she had to endure at her old school. Ali interrogates Andrew and eventually forces him to confess that Missy is the culprit and not Nick like they originally believed and without thinking, she runs to the cafeteria to beat up Missy but unfortunately for Ali, Missy quickly gains the upper hand since she knows Capoeira and while Ali managed to hurt Missy the first took the most damage until they were separated and removed from the school by their fathers.
In "Re-New Year's Eve", Ali attended Devin and DeVon's New Years party with Jessi when Missy, who overcame her hatred after Jessi apologized to her and Missy made amends with Quinta, showed up and apologized to Ali for beating her up, the rumors and dunking Ali's favorite highlighter in a toilet at the boys' room. Ali forgave Missy and the two hugged before Jessi proposed they all went to dance.
Appearance[]
Ali has waist-length black hair that is pinned back on top, brown eyes and "smooth porcelain skin". She has large red glasses, which Andrew described as "oversized" and "funky".
Ali wears a white middle split "cold shoulder" tank top with an off-the-shoulder pink shirt underneath, a red skirt, ripped dark grey stockings that are black below the knee, white socks and red high top sneakers. She also wears turquoise earrings shaped like hands flipping the bird. She used to wear a permanent retainer until Missy broke it during a fight.
Personality[]
Ali is a confident and blunt girl who is open to lots of things and loves to swear and if she can get away with cursing she will go wild with it. She is also rather patient with her male classmates and their rude advances towards her. She is a bit stuck up about her sexuality and is dismissive of bisexuality as being "too binary". However, she does have a good heart since she supported Jessi Glaser in protesting the sexist school musical and is one of the only students who supports Jay when he comes out as bisexual.
